    3. OBIT # 5261 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 21 DECEMBER 1944 MRS. THOMAS BLACKWOOD One of Westville's oldest and highly esteemed citizens, was called by death with the passing of MRS.THOMAS BLACKWOOD at her home, Cowan Street, at the age of 93. Mrs. Blackwood , the former JEAN JONES, was born in Scotland but resided in Westville for many years. Before coming here she resided in Joggins and Thorburn, where her late husband, who passed away 30 years ago was mine manager and also served as Inspector of Mines for Pictou County. Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Blackwood was exceptionally bright and alert. The death of her daughter, MRS.W.C. DICK, last May was a grievous shock to her. A son DAVID predeceased her some years ago. Mrs. Blackwood travelled four times to her native Scotland, where two surviving sisters live. She was a faithful member of St.Andrew's Church and an honary member of the W.M.S. of that congregation. She is survived by three sons and one daughter, JAMES BLACKWOOD, Moncton; THOMAS BLACKWOOD, Springhill; WILLIAM BLACKWOOD,Glace Bay; and MRS.ALEX BARNHILL, Montreal, who has been in Westville the past six months. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren survive. Rev.Dr. George S. Mitchell, Pictou, former pastor of St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church assisted by the present pastor, Rev.Herbert M. Buntain officated at the funeral service held from her late home, Tuesday, Dec.12, with interment at the Auburn cemetery.
