OBIT # 5246 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 6 APRIL 1939 WILLIAM GRANT There passed away on Saturday last, at his home on Fraser's Mountain, one of New Glasgow's finest citizens in the person of WILLIAM GRANT in his fifty-fifth year. He had been ill for some time but his death was totally unexpected and came as a great shock and grief to his devoted family. He was born at Toney River and thirty years ago he married MINNIE GERMAINE and has since lived in New Glasgow. He leaves to mourn the passing of a loving husband and father, his wife, two sons, FLETCHER and WILLIAM, both at home and three daughters, OLIVE(Mrs.John Hunter)of Springhill; EDNA and LILLIAN, at home. Also surviving is one brother, PETER, who lives in Dorchester, Mass. Mr.Grant was a man highly respected and well liked. A good neighbour and a true friend, his passing at such an early age is a deep loss to the community. He was a loyal member of St.Andrew's Church but the main interest of his life was centered in his home and family. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon in the home of the deceased and in the absence of his pastor, Rev.Wm.Ooms, the service was conducted by Rev.Hugh Munroe,D.D. of Westminster Church. The hymns sung, led by St.Andrew's Church choir were,"The Lord's My Shepherd" and "O God of Bethel". A favorite hymn "The Old Rugged Cross" was sweetly sung by Miss Ethel Warren. The pall were, Messrs.A.W. MacNabb, Donald Sutherland, J.J.Chisholm, George Milne, W.M. Murray, and J.D. Murray. The large number present at the funeral and the quantities of beautiful floral tributes were marvellous testimony to the esteem in which the late Mr.Grant was held. Interement was at Riverside Cemetery.
