UNKNOWN PAPER - 25 APRIL 1946 WILLIAM K. SUTHERLAND - Earltown - Stricken suddenly down whilst on a visit to Calgary, William K. SUTHERLAND, popular old timer of the Delia district died on Friday, March 29, having lingered only a few days in the General Hospital in that city, to which he had been removed. He was 63 years and eight months old, having been born at Earltown, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, in 1882, and was the last remaining member of his family. Deceased came to the Delia district in 1909, where he took up a homestead and became a very successful farmer. He was a member of Hand Hills Lodge, No 98, A.F. & A.M., having been initiated, passed and raised in the year 1921. In addition to the other offices held, he occupied the chairs of Junior Warden, Senior Warden, and was Master of Hand Hills Lodge, No. 98, during he years 1938-40. He was a member of Hanna Chapter, member of Preceptory and also a Shriner. A life member of the United Farmers of Alberta, he devoted much of his time and energy to War Loan and other community activities. Funeral services were held in Delia United Church on Wednesday, April 3rd, at 11 o'clock a.m., Rev. Wm. H. McDANNOLD, of Leduc, officiating by request. Rev. Thos. TAYLOR presided as organist, assisted by the choir. Hymns sung were - "Rock of Ages," "I heard the Voice of Jesus say," and "Abide with me." Mrs. A. WHITMAN sang as a solo the hymn, "When I survey the wonderous Cross." Brethern of the Fraternity held a Masonic service following the church service, after which the body was removed for interment in the family plot at Stettler, Alberta. Pallbearers were - Art NELSON, William L. CARTER, Jock MORRISON, Robert MORRISON, Douglas MORRISON, and H. STEVENSON. Many lovely floral tributes decorated the church. Winters Funeral Home, Drumheller, had charge of arrangements.
