Mrs. Bernardine G. Beck 1979 Bridgewater Bulletin Bernardine Beck, 58, wife of Ernest Beck, Upper Branch, passed away at her home early Sunday evening, April 8, 1979. Though ill for several years, she was always ready with a smile for her many friends and family. She was cared for by her family with the help of Beverley Richards. Bernardine was born at Upper Branch September 10, 1920, the daughter of the late Jabez and Ellen (Wentzell) Mader. She lived at Upper Branch all her life. She is survived by her husband, Ernest; and father-in-law, Dennis, Upper Branch; stepmother, Mrs. Laura Mader, Harbour View Haven; son, Melvin, Whynott's Settlement; daughter, Jean (Mrs. Gary Young); and two granddaughters, Michelle and Tracie, all of Dayspring; a sister, Unita (Mrs. Ellison Conrad), Upper Branch; a brother, Bruce, Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a half-sister, Mrs. Helen Roy, Langley, B.C.; and a grandson, Dwayne Beck, Whynott's Settlement. Funeral service was held at the Union Church, Upper Branch, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Officiating was Rev. Randy Crozsman of the New West Pine United Church of which Bernardine was a member. Hymns sung were "Abide With Me" and "What A Friend we Have in Jesus." Organist was Mrs. Clifford Blackadar. Pallbearers were Lester, Arnold, and Willis Beck, Ray Wagner, St.Clair Wentzell, and Ellison Conrad. Burial was in the family plot in Upper Branch Cemetery.
