    3. OBIT # 5244 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 28 DECEMBER 1944 EX-CONDUCTOR JOHN J. FRASER One of the most kindly, most considerate and faithful railway men that ever punched a ticket, died at his home in Stellarton on Thursday morning , a week ago. He was JOHN J. FRASER, ex-conductor, a native of Hopewell, who served his years in the service of the Canadian National Railway. and retired a few years ago, entitled to a well earned rest. For many years he was conductor on the Sunny Brae branch from Stellarton, and to the people of that beautiful East River valley he was friend , counsellor and helper. It is not belittling his splendid record to suggest that he was also their "errand boy". He did the banking for some, he made purchases for others and many hundreds of trips he saved those who depended upon the railway service, and who had buisness to transact in town. When he retired he took with him the prayers of those folk for the enjoyment of a long and deserved rest, and their thanks for deeds well done. So it was . But recently he was beset with an illness that called for months in hospital, and last week the end came and JOHN J. FRASER, whom everyone liked and held in the highest respect, went to rest with his Father. He is survived by his wife, formerly MISS JESSIE HALLIDAY, one son, ROLAND, and three daughhters, MABEL (Mrs.J.J.Hoare); EVA (Mrs.John Larsen) and LOU (Mrs.Raymond D. MacDonald) The funeral on Saturday was largely attended, from the late home of Mr.Fraser, South Foord Street, Stellarton. Floral tributes testified to the regard for the deceased. The service was conducted by Rev.R.D.MacIntosh, pastor of St.John -Sharon Church, assisted by Rev.Dr.Matheson. Interment was at St.Columba cemetery, Hopewell. Pall bearers were: Messrs. Fraser Lorimer, George D. MacKay, George A. MacKay, D.M. Bruce, W.H.MacDougall and Alonzo Murray.
