Melba L. Walker 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Wednesday, January 12, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Melba L. Walker, 88, Brooklyn, Queens County, died Sunday, January 9, 2000, in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born at Brooklyn, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Hattie (Gardner) Harrington. She was a former co-owner and operator along with her husband John, of Walker's Grocery, in Brooklyn. She was a member of Pilgrim United Church for many years and served as treasurer for 37 years. She was former secretary for the Brooklyn School Board. She was a member of Queens Chapter 34, Order of the Eastern Star, Liverpool and served as secretary and Worthy Matron for Pinehurst Rebekah Lodge, Liverpool and at the time of her death, was serving as Noble Grand for the seventh term. She is survived by her daughter, Hattie and her husband Dennis Hagen, Indian Harbour; sons, John and his wife Marie, Milton; Robert and his wife Aileen, Liverpool; grandchildren, Maria, Karia, Donald, Ronald, Joan, Janet, Leslie, Andrew, Paula, Margo, and Terry; great-grandchildren, Kristina, Tyler, Melanie, Benjamin, Christopher, Jonathan, Amy, Kevin, Ryan, Shelden, and Taylor; sister, Esther Clayborne, Hamilton, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, John Knight; and a brother, Andrew. Visitation will be today, January 11, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. where a Rebekah Lodge service will be held at 7 p.m., an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m., all in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held in Pilgrim United Church, Brooklyn, Wednesday, January 12, at 2:00 p.m., Rev.Karen Lynch officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Pilgrim United Church or to any charity.
