    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - JUNE 1946 THOMAS W. MURRAY - Tribute To Late Thos. W. Murray. Westville, June 4 - On the 7th of May there passed peacefully to his rest after a useful life of service in the home, church and the community. Mr. Thomas W. MURRAY, who for the past 26 years served as Town Clerk of Westville. The deceased was born at Earltown, a Highland Scotch community of Colchester County, which has produced many eminent men and women prominent in the life of the Province. He received a good common school education in his native rural community and studied also for a period in Dalhousie College. After teaching school and working for a period in the industrial concerns of the Province he finally settled in Westville over thirty years ago, and in he intervening period has always been recognized as one of the best citizens of the town. As a citizen, friend and Town Clerk he held in a unique degree the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens. As Town Clerk he was painstaking, honest, and worked always for the best welfare of his adopted town. In his earlier years he took a prominent part in the organization and activities of the Conservative Party in the Province and remained a steadfast friend of his Party until the end of his career. A loyal churchman true to his Highland Scotch youthful upbringing, he was a pillar of strength in the former Carmel Church serving as Sunday School superintendent, and holding other offices in the congregation. He was a member of the United Church and a generous contributor to the church and all charitable causes. Although actively engaged in many public duties, he was permanently a home man and his whole life was filled with an unusual devotion to his family. Early in his married life his wife, who was Jessie MacKAY of Earltown, died, and he was left with five small children to whom he devoted the love of a mother. His family are Lyda, Edith, Isabel and Edna (Mrs. Thos. WORKMAN) all of Westville. Another daughter, Marjorie, died some years ago. The funeral service was held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Neil M. RATTEE, assisted by Rev. H.M. BUNTAIN. A fine tribute was paid to his worth as citizen and churchman which was also attested to by the large number of citizens who attended the funeral services, and the beautiful flowers expressive of the esteem and sympathy of his fellow citizens. The members of Western Star Lodge A.F. & A.M. attended the service and took part in the final tribute to a member of their society. Interment was in the family lot at Auburn Cemetery. The Evening News, on behalf of many friends, tenders deepest sympathy to the bereaved.
