Roger Fraser Hirtle 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Friday, January 21, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Roger Fraser Hirtle, 83, Dayspring, passed away January 19, 2000, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Dayspring, he was a son of the late Titus William and Emily Mae (Fraser) Hirtle. Roger served in the navy from 1940-1945 as a lieutenant during the Second World War. He attended Acadia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1946. He then attended the Nova Scotia Technical College in Halifax and graduated withh his engineering degree on May 15, 1948. After that, he was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways, Halifax from 1948 until his retirement in 1977. Upon retirement he moved to Dayspring and was secretary treasurer of Dayspring Cemetery for 12 years. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater. He is survived by wife Luella Oreene (Messinger) (MacLean); stepson, Donald and wife Patricia MacLean, Halifax; stepdaughters, Iva Gale, Bridgetown; Ann Alcorn, Dayspring; sister, Leone Wright, Massachusetts; nine step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; nephews Michael Hiltz, David Hiltz, both of Ontario; John Hiltz, Brookfield. He was predeceased by sisters, Mabel Burns, Lottie Simmons, Daisy Bell, Evelyn Hiltz. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. Private family burial will be in Dayspring Cemetery. There will be no visitation in the funeral home by request. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Dayspring Cemetery Fund.
