Lester Gordon Aulenback 1978 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of Blockhouse was saddened when learning of the death of Lester Gordon Aulenback, 54, in the Henderson General Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario, on July 23, 1978. Althoug in failing health during the past year, his passing was unexpected. Son of Mr. Lancelot Aulenback and the late Mrs. Aulenback (Sadie DeMone), he was born at Northwest, moving with his parents to Blockhouse at an early age. Here he attended school and spent most of his early life, moving to Hamilton some years ago where he was a bus operator. Besides his wife, the former Gwendolyn Ernst of Blockhouse, he is survived by a son, Leigh and a daughter, Vivian (Mrs. Clarence Roach), both of Dundas, Ontario; his father, Lancelot Aulenback, Blockhouse; two brothers, Donald, Saint John; Paul, Germany; and three sisters, Verna (Mrs. Donald Knickle), Pauline Mrs. Douglas Hirtle), Mona (Mrs. Lynwood Joudrey) ,all of Blockhouse; two grandchildren, Blair Roach and Natalie Aulenback who will miss the devotion of a loving grandfather. There are also many aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins who regret his early passing. A memorial service was held in Robinson's Funeral Parlour, Hamilton, on Monday evening, July 24 ,with the Rev. Eric Nowe officiating. Many of his friends from here, now residing in Ontario, were among the congregation. The deceased rested at the Mahone Funeral Home until the funeral service was held on July 26 in St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay with the rector, Rev. W.E. Dye officiating. Miss Gertie Smeltzer, church organist, and the choir were in attendance.
