Herbert Smith January, 194_ LaHave- The death of Herbert Smith, a well known resident of Pentz, occurred at the home of his parents on Thursday evening, following a long period of ill-health. The deceased was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Smith and was 45 years of age. For years the late Mr. smith followed the sea and was well liked by shipmates, and later when health compelled him to give up his sea-faring life, he remained at home, but took daily walks and became a familiar figure on the road, as he enjoyed a hike. He could easily walk as far as Halifax in one day. It has been said he walked in to Halifax forty times in one year. Surviving are his parents; brothers, Lloyd, proprietor of LaHave Restaurant, Bridgewater and Malcolm of Washington, D.C.; also one sister, Tessie, wife of Mr. Thompson, Portland, Maine. At the special request of the deceased his friend, Rev. H. Clark, rector of New Dublin Anglican Parish, conducted the funeral services which were held in St. Peter's Church, West LaHave, Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in St. Peter's Cemetery.
