Owen Douglas Lohnes 1958 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of Upper Northfield learned with sorrow and sympathy on Friday, January 24th., 1958, of the death of Owen, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Winslow Lohnes at the age of 27 years, who passed away at the V.G. Hospital after an illnessof five months which he bore with such pateince and fortitude. Four weeks ago on the advice of his physician he entered the hospital for medical treatment. Although he became gradually worse the seriousness of his condition was not realized and death was not expected so soon. His early passing removes a promising young man who will be greatly missed not only by his own family but by a wide circle of friends. Up until the time of his illness, Owen was employed with the Acadia Construction Ltd. and was highly regarded by his employers. He is survived by his sorrowing parents; three sisters, (Helen). Mrs. Harold Silver, Lower Northfield; (Phyllis), Mrs. Basil Joudrey, Upper Northfield; (Marjorie), Mrs. Donald Cook, Bridgewater; and one brother, Lincoln, also of Upper Northfield. His aged maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Penney, also survive. The funeral service was held at the Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield on Monday afternoon and was the largest held there for some time. Rev. Donald Himmelman preached a comforting sermon from the text, Psalm 39, verses 4, 5, and 7. Hymns sung were "There is a Green Hill Far Away" and "Our God, Our Help in Ages Past." Interment was in the family lot in the Upper Northfield Cemetery. Pall bearers were Owen's six Lohnes cousins, James, Charles, Gordon, Eldred, Hilton, and Cyril. Owen was engaged to Miss Joyce Veinot and she along with all the members of the family have the sympathy of a host of friends as shown by the profusion of beautiful flowers.
