Frederick Arthur Snyder 1948 Bridgewater Bulletin Friends and relatives in this district were shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of Frederick Arthur Snyder, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Obediah Snyder of Halifax, who was inatantly killed on Thursday morning, May 20, when he came in contact with high tension wires while at work with Maritime Telephone & Telegraph Company at Halifax, Freddie, as he was known by his many friends, was 18 years of age and was born at New Germany. He spent his childhood in Hemford where he was a favourite with young and old. Six yeras ago he moved to Halifax with his parents, where he was a popular student at Bloomfield School, taking an active part in the school sports. He was an apprentice at the Halifax Shipyards until six months ago when he entered the employ of Maritime Tel & Tel Company. He was an active member of the Date Square Social Club, serving on one of the committees; also a member of the Kiwanis Teenage Club; and St. Patrick's Club. He is survived by his parents and one older brother, Llewellyn, of Halifax. Following this accident the body was removed from Halifax to the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Jennie Snyder, Hemford, where the funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, at the home and at the Union Church, Hemford, and were conducted by the Rev. C.H. Whitteker of Bridgewater who delivered a comforting message to the bereaved family and friends who filled the church to capacity; many coming from Halifax and other parts of the province. Hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross," "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know," "What A Friend we Have in Jesus," and "Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross." The organist was Mrs. Oswald Zinck. The pall bearers were friends of the deceased: Hart Francis, Max Hutt, Howard Hartenth, Alex Cameron, Ralph MacDonald, and Russell Holland.
