Mrs. John Spindler 1940 After an illness extending over the greater part of a year, the death occurred on Saturday morning, October 19th., at the V.G. Hospital, Halifax, of Mary, beloved wife of Captain John Spindler. Mrs. Spindler, who had been ailing for several months, at home, entered the hospital some nine weeks ago for treatment and after being critically ill there for some time seemed to be making a good recovery but she suffered a relapse and the end came peacefully after much suffering, borne with Christian fortitude. Mrs. spindler, who was 57 years of age, was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Creaser. She leaves to mourn their loss, besides her sorrowing husband, two daughters, Miss Claribel Spindler, graduate of Grace Hospital, Halifax; and Mrs. Thomas Covey (Ethelyn), also of Halifax. There also survive three sisters, Mrs. John Walters, Lunenburg; Mrs. Robert McBride, Halifax; and Mrs. William Gallen of the United States; and six brothers, Captain Ellison, Edwin, Ivan, Naaman, Jason, and Donald, all of Riverport. The late Willis Creaser was also a brother. The funeral was held from her late home on Monday afternoon and was in charge of her pastor, Rev. W.K. Pace of Trinity United Church, who spoke from Psalm 39: 4-5,"Lord make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days,what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Behold Thou hast made my days as an handbreath and mine age is as nothing before Thee." Hymns were "Rock of Ages," "Sweet Hour of Prayer," and "Lead, Kindly Light." After the regular service, Riverview Rebekah Lodge, of which Mrs. Spindler was a member, performed their last rites during which time the hymn,"Safe in the Arms of Jesus" was sung. The pall bearers were Captain Clarence Myra, Captain Daniel Romkey, Arnold Ritcey, Wesley Corkum, Zelotes Wentzell, and Matthias Mossman. Interment took place beside her two children, who were buried in infancy in the cemetery at Lower LaHave.
