Vera Ethelinda York 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Wednesday, February 2, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Vera Ethelinda York, 159 Riverlane, Bedford, and formerly of Western Shore, died Sunday, January 30, 2000, in the VG Site, QEII. Born at Western Shore, she was a daughter of the late Clifford M. and Effie L. (Adams) Barkhouse. She was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Martin's Point. She was a retired employee of National Sea Products, Lunenburg. She was a member of the Over 40's Club, Chester Basin; a member of the Ocean View Senior Citizens Club, Western Shore, and was an active volunteer fundraiser for the Children's Wish Foundation. Surviving are daughters, Millie Hiltz, Lower Sackville; Jeannie Barkhouse and husband Jim, Martin's Point; granddaughters, Wendy Hiltz and Amy Hiltz, both of Lower Sackville; sister, Louise Swinamer, Western Shore. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest A. York; sisters, Marge Collicutt, Mildred Barkhouse; brother, Charlie Barkhouse; niece, Amanda Hiltz. No visitation by request. Funeral 3 p.m. today, February 2, in St. Mark's Anglican Church, Martin's Point, Rev. michael Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Western Shore Cemetery, Western Shore. Flowers from the immediate family only. Donations in Vera's memory may be made to the Children's Wish Founation, Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay.
