    3. OBIT # 5531 - EASTERN CHRONICLE -10 MARCH 1942 An interesting life came to an end at the Infirmary last week when ALEXANDER ROSS, a native of Scotsburn, Pictou County, died at the advanced age of 98 years. He was the oldest graduate of Dalhousie University and was educated for the ministry but abondoned that profession and took up teaching school. He taught at several places throughout the province, Annapolis, Baddeck, Nine Mile River, and finally he drifted to Dalhousie, N.B., where for thirty years he was principle of the County Academy there. Later he retired and settled at Carroll's Corner in Halifax County where he lived a sort of hermit life. It was presumed that he was worth a great deal of money and probably due to the fact that he was one of the first in Dalhousie to receive the degree of Bachelor of Arts, which he did when he was twenty-four years of age, that institution conferred on him an additional degree of Doctor of Civil Laws. Dalhousie took a deep interest in his welfare and in 1938 he was transferred to the Infirmary in Halifax and has been a patient there almost ever since. There was never any question as to the ability of the old gentleman, but his living alone for so long rather puzzled his friends. He never married and most of his relatives have passed on before him. He is being buried at Bethel cemetery, Scotsburn.
