    3. OBIT # 5500 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 13 JANUARY 1942 THORBURN - WILLIAM "Billy" BENNETT, 38 year old Vale native and a favorite in the Thorburn district, died Saturday, believed to be the results of the accident when a truckload of Thorburn men returning from work in Trenton, plunged into Smelt Brook. Mr. Bennett at that time suffered a wound over the eye requiring 12 stitches. Although he had apparently recovered he had lately suffered from pains in the head above the wound and dizzy spells from last Tuesday. Sitting in his home listening to the hockey game, he suddently dropped out of his chair and had passed away when the doctor arrived. He had been to work as usual on Saturday. Mr. Bennett, a single man, had kept a barber shop in Thorburn for many years and was well known throughout the Thorburn area. A past master of Hudson Lodge, A.F.&A.M., he took a keen interest in young people and was scoutmaster of Thorburn Boy Scouts at a time when they were the best troup in the county. He is survived by his mother and his father, ROBERT BENNETT, who was also in the accident; by a younger brother, Robert, now overseas, and two sisters, MRS. LEVY, of New Glasgow and MRS. DICKSON, Halifax. The sisters were at home at the time he passed away. The funeral is to be held this afternoon at 2pm from the Presbyterian Church with Hudson Lodge taking part in the service. The accident in which the truck skidded over the bank happened last November and claimed the life of ALDEN FORSYTHE. Thirty-eight men were in the truck but at the time only two others were thought to be badly injured. Both are recovering, DENNIS REID, whose ribs were broken, has been able to leave the hospital and go home, but DAN LOVE is still in Aberdeen where he is being treated for a scalp wound and chest injuries. Others have not been able to return to work yet.
