James Gordon Hirtle 1979 Bridgewater Bulletin James Gordon Hirtle, 91, of Upper Branch, passed away Saturday, March 3rd, at the D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, after a five week illness. Born at Upper Branch, he was the only son of the late Simon and Ellen (Wentzell) Hirtle. He is survived by two sisters, Ella (Mrs. Stewart Crouse), Jackonsville, Florida; Macy (Mrs. Titus Mailman), North Brookfield; also a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Sadie, in 1975. He was a lifelong resident of this community; spent many hard days working with his oxen at woods work and long hours of travel hauling wood to the mills and factories. But good fortune was always with him, he never was sick, never been to a dentist in his life, and never had a doctor until January 31st, the day he went to the hospital. In 1965 he came to reside with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bolivar in Upper Branch, who cared for him until his death. Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. from Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Interment was in the Upper Branch Cemetery.
