UNKNOWN PAPER - 8 DECEMBER 1955 ALEXANDER CONKEY - After a lingering illness, Alexander CONKEY of Tatamagouche Mountain, was called to his eternal rest on Monday morning, November 28. He and his wife had spent the past month or more at the home of Mrs. Aubrey BYERS, R.N., West New Annan, where he was tenderly cared for by Mrs. BYERS. He was a son of the late Israel CONKEY and Bella MILLER CONKEY and while health permitted he was a very successful farmer, and spent his entire life at the homestead on Tatamagouche Mountain. Of a quiet disposition, he was a good friend and neighbour, who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was 79 years old last June, and had been a member of the Central New Annan United Baptist Church for the past 43 years, and a deacon of the church for several years. He was a member of the choir in both the Baptist Church and the Tatamagouche Mountain United Church. The funeral service, held from the Tatamagouche Mountain United Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m., was conducted by the Baptist Pastor, Rev. A.E. TODD, and Rev. Gordon DEKKER, United Church pastor, assisted with the scripture and prayer. Hymns sung by the choir were: "Sweet Peace the Gift of God's Love," "Where He Leads Me I Will Follow," and "Meet Me There." Pall bearers were George COCK, Hedley WILSON, John MacKAY, Aubrey TUCKER, Elmon and Gordon BAILEY. Left to mourn is his wife the former Elizabeth MacINTOSH of Central New Annan, to whom he was married 41 years ago. Two first cousins, Burton COCK and Lawrence MILLER, attended the funeral. Interment was in the Tatamagouche Mountain cemetery with Harry BONNYMAN of Tatamagouche as funeral director. Floral tributes were many and beautiful testifying to the esteem in which deceased was held.
