    3. Sydney L. Gidney 1976 Bridgewater Bulletin Sydney L. Gidney passed away at D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, August 6, 1976. Born at Mink Cove, Digby County, May 11, 1898, he was the son of Edwin A. and Margaret (Lent) Gidney. He is survived by his wife, the former Veva Bruce; one son, James C. Gidney; daughters, Genevieve (Mrs. Harris Turner), West Northfield; and Sidney (Mrs. Maxwell Hicks), Ottawa; nine grandchildren; a brother, Donald, Lake Worth, Florida; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, a daughter, and three brothers. The body rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service was held in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield at 2 p.m., August 8, 1976. Rev. Ralph Keith officiated, assisted by the Rev. Richard Gidney, grand nephew of the deceased, from Regina, Saskatchewan. Mr. Gidney, an honourary Legion member, served with the C.E.F. in the First World War. The Legion service was conducted by his comrades and Legion members of Branch 24, Bridgewater; led by the president of the Legion, Elmer Conrad; Colour Party was Debney Oickle, Leon whynot, and Otto Feener; bugler was Donald Gow; pall bearers were Lester Veinotte, Lincoln Lohnes, Perry Veinot, and Lorraine Aulenback. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Floral tributes were beautifully arrayed. Donations were made to the Veterans' Comfort Fund, Camp Hill Hospital, the D.M. Reasearch, and St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. A memorial service was held in the Church of the Navitity, Sandy Cove, Digby County, where Mr. Gidney lived for many years, by Rev. Richard Gidney on August 8, 1976 at 9:30 a.m. for Mr. Gidney.
