Clarence T. Heckman 1943 Halifax Chronicle Herald Chester, June 21- Clarence T. Heckman, prominent South Shore resident and president of the Chester Board of Trade, died suddenly here tonight. The death of Mr. Heckman comes as a shock to many citizens in Halifax and residents along the South Shore of the province, as he travelled extensively in that district as a salesman for J. and M. Murphy Limited of Halifax. For the past several years he had also been a member of the Board of Directors of that firm. Born 66 years ago at Heckman's Island, Lunenburg County, Mr. Heckman was a leader in the community life of Chester, holding several prominent positions. He was president of the Chester Board of Trade and a Master of the Clark Lodge, A.F. and A.M. He was an active churchgoer and took a keen interest in the St. Stephen's Anglican Church. In his younger days he was a bandsman of note and played in many concerts in Halifax and Lunenburg. He resided in Halifax for several years, moving to Chester in 1932, where he took up a permanent residence. Apparently in the best of health, Mr. Heckman was an earnest and hard worker and up until the time of his death he was taking the same active interest in his community as he had done in the past. His sudden death will come as a shock to a wide circle of friends in Halifax and throughout the province. His first wife, the former Dorothy Fraser, predeceased him several years ago. He is survived by his wife, Grace; two daughters, Hilaire Janet (wife of Mayor J.E. Lloyd), Theodora Phyllis (Mrs. Gordon Robertson), Halifax; three brothers, Harold, Washington State; Kenneth and Charles Holland, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
