Lorne Anderson Romkey 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Thursday, February 17, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Lorne Anderson Romkey, 87, Riverport, died February 15, 2000, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born at Saint John, he was the eldest son of Captain William and Jean Myrtle (Oxner) Romkey. He was a 1928 graduate of Salem Commercial School in Salem, Mass. He was a veteran of the Second World War, Following the war, he built and operated Romkey Sales and Service station until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, past president of Riverport Board of Trade, member of Riverport Masonic Lodge, and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia "Nini" Baetem, originally of Denermonde, Belgium, now of Fairview Villa, Halifax; daughters Lorna-Jane and husband Romaine Cook, Anne Marie Romkey, Halifax son, William and companion Robert Thomson, Halifax; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Nancy Rogers, Lunenburg; and an aunt, Mrs. Eva Oxner, Halifax. He was predeceased by a brother, Borden; son, Peter. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, Friday with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m., a Legion service at 6:45 p.m., and visitation 7-9 p.m. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Burial in Lower LaHave Cemetery, Lower LaHave. Donations to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lower LaHave Cemetery, or any charity.
