Spr. Clyde Trethewey July, 1963. Bridgewater Bulletin A military service was held from St. John's Anglican Church, New Germany, on Thursday afternoon for Spr. Clyde Arthur Trethewey, son of Leslie Trethewey and the late Mrs. Trethewey. The service was conducted by Major G.G. Mercer, Protestant Padre, Camp Aldershot. Mr. Trethewey was killed in a tank accident in Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick, where he was serving with the Royal Canadian Engineers. Born December 5, 1942, he was a graduate of the New Germany Rural high School and of the Halifax Vocational School. Following his graduation, he joined the R.C.E. where he had served sixteen months. He took his basic training at Camp Shilo, Manitoba. He was a member of No. 3 Troop, Second Field Squadron, R.C.E., S.F. 104004. Surviving besides his father are one sister, Maxine (Mrs. Charles Musgrove), of Dartmouth; and two brothers, Harry and Horton, of New Germany; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Trethewey of New Germany and an aunt, Rose Robar, of Whitman, Mass. Clyde was a favourite with all who knew him. Pall bearers were school chums: Richard Slauenwhite, Robert Veinot, Dale Veinot, Merle Veinot, Dale Penney, and Gordon Meisner. Following the service at the church, the firing party formed at the church and moved from there to the graveside where Major Mercer conducted the committal service. At the conclusion, the firing party fired three volleys and the bulger sounded "The Last Post." The firing party and bugler were members of the W.N.S.R. Major M.L. Joudrey represented the Commanding Officer of the W.N.S.R. Hymns sung were "Unto the Hills Around Do I Lift Up" and "Abide With Me", with Ray Russell at the organ.
