Francis Johnson DeMings 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Friday, February 18, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Francis Johnson DeMings, 80, Carleton Village, died February 17, 2000, in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point. Born at Carleton Village, he was a son of the late James Fraser and Bessie Julia (Payne) DeMings. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 48, Clark's Harbour. He was a fisherman, construction worker, and tow boat operator. He was also a high rigger in British Columbia. He was a labourer aboard a government dredge, D16. He attended St. Paul's United Church, Carleton Village and he served overseas during the Second World War in the merchant navy. Surviving are his wife, Ruby (Rennehan); sons, James, Lockeport; Ellsworth, Port Latour; Danny, Gunning Cove; Kevin, Vincent, Shelburne; daughters, Ester, South Side; Doris, Ottawa; Laurel, Woodlawn Drive, Shelburne; Wanda, Clam Point; Sonia, Baccaro; Violet, Seal Point; Joan, Shelburne; Celia, New Minas; Anna, West Head; Penny, Birchtown; brother, Enos Oscar DeMings, Carleton Village; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, James, Fraser, Charles, Nathan, Henry, Stanley; sisters, Edna Mae, Elizabeth, Grace. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Royal Canadian Legion service 2 p.m. Sunday, funeral 2:30 p.m. Sunday, all in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne, Rev. Gordon Simons officiating. Burial in Carleton Village Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the VON or Roseway Hospital.
