UNKNOWN PAPER - 10 APRIL 1951 HOWARD MACLEOD - Waldegrave - The death of Howard MacLEOD occurred at his home Waldegrave March 15 after a prolonged illness, during which his health gradually failed. Deceased was in his ninety-second year, a life long resident of Waldegrave son of the late Donald and Jane ROSS MacLEOD both of whom were born in Scotland. He married Margaret Ann MacKAY of West Branch, and on May 17, 1950 they celebrated their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary and were honored with a telegram of congratulations from their Majesties the King and Queen. His death marks the first break in the happy family circle in the MacLEOD home. He is survived by his widow, one son John M. at home, two daughters Annie, (Mrs. J.D. STEWART) Trenton, and Mae at home. A sister Miss Mary MacLEOD, R.N. formerly of Chelsea, Mass, now residing at Trenton. A brother Peter MacLEOD at Vancouver, B.C. Eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Three sisters and four brothers predeceased him several years ago. Mr. MacLEOD was a farmer, and for many years a salesman for the Deval Cream separator Co., Montreal, a position which he held until ill health overtook him several years ago. He was a staunch supporter of the Conservative party, in which he maintained a diligent interest until his death. His home was the centre of true hospitality, and he was indeed a home loving man, ready of wit young in spirit, devoted to young people and never happier than when surrounded by his children, grand children and great grand children and to each of these he was truly a pal. His great-grandson little David MacLEOD was a great comfort to him during his long illness. All through his declining years and last illness he was cared for by his devoted grandson Francis MacLEOD. Other member of the family were also in attendance, and did all they possibly could do to comfort him during a trying illness. (...) Garfield BRUCE of Sharon United Church Tatamagouche officiated assisted by Rev. G.E. WHIDDEN, a former pastor in this congregation. All member of the family were present except a grand daughter Mrs. Clayton REID, (Katherine MacLEOD) Ontario, and grandson, Pte. Clarence STEWARD who is serving with the P.P.C.L.I. in Korea. The floral tributes from family and friends were many and beautiful. Hymns sung by member of Brule Church Choir were "The Lord's My Shepherd, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Rock of Ages." Six neighbours and friends acted as pall bearers: George W. ROSS, George A. COCK, J.C. ROSS, George W. FRASER, David A. ROSS and George FERGUSON. Interment was at Bay View Cemetery Waldegrave.
