    3. Chronicle Herald - Friday, 18 July 2003 - Page B6 - Carl Victor Robinson - Robinson, Carl Victor - 87, Steam Mill, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2003, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Camp Aldershot, May 30, 1916, he was a son of the late Howard and Jennie (Savage) Robinson. His family moved to their farm in Steam Mill in the early 1920s, setting out orchards. Even as a child he had a great passion for horses and left home to work in a lumber camp as a teamster, when he was 14. Returning home in the spring, he used his earnings to help his parents make a mortgage payment on the farm, and he bought his first horse. He owned one or more horses for the rest of his life. As a teenager, he served with the "Kings County Hussars", and may have been the last surviving member of the calvary militia unit. He competed in horse pulling into his eighties. His love and interest in horses was shared with many friends of all ages, including the many new friends he met at the Old Orchard Inn, during his sleigh rides. He lost many a teamster and other long-time friends late in life, but his stock of friends never diminished nor did his enthusiasm for shared interests and life. After farming, working in the lumber woods and for M.W. Graves and others, he went to Florida in the mid 1940s, where he met and married his wife, returning to take over the family farm in Steam Mill in 1955. He was a founding member of Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, Aldershot. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are daughters, Pat (Charles) McGee, Jacksonville, Fla.; Jennie (Steven) Enman, Steam Mill; sons, Walter (Janet) Newton, Port Williams; David (Arlene) Robinson, Halifax; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mozelle (Jones) Newton; daughter, Ellen Robinson; sisters, Jean Hutton and Helen "Honey" Wood; brother, Grant. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in W.C. Hiltz/White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday July 20, in Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, Rev. Ed Shaw and Rev. Dr. Freeman Fenerty officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeview, Kings Co. Family flowers only by request.
