Farley Albert Swim 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, July 6, 2009. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Captain Farley Albert Swim, Jordan Falls- It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Captain Farley Albert Swim on July 4, 2009, at home here in Jordan Falls. Born February 2, 1930, in Lockeport, he was a son of the late John W. and Sarah (Gates) Swim. Farley lived a fulfilled life and was educated at Acadia University. His career varied from working at Steel & Engine to fishing captain of three vessels to original owner/operator of the White Gull Restaurant in Lockeport. He was a member of the original Lockeport & Area Lions club and a member of Shelburne Legion, Branch No. 63. Upon retiring from fishing and the restaurant business, Farley embarked on a new life of hobbies and caring for his pets and wildlife. Farley loved feeding the wild birds. In winter he could be seen pulling a sleigh full of feed for hungry deer in the snow. He was a kind and gentle man towards all animals and birds. His hobbies included his love of wildlife, gardening, and woodworking. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his companion of 23 years, Shirley Morash; his children, Joy Martin, Prince Edward Island; Mark (Paula), Allendale; Michael (Catherine), Prince Edward Island; Paul (Shelley),Sable River; Natalie (Allan), East Green Harbour; Carle (Rhonda), Shelburne; and stepchildren, Adam (Lisa), Winnipeg; Paul, Halifax. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Farley was "Uncle Farley" to many children. Visitation will be today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Chapel, Shelburne with Rev. Norma Mitchell officiating. Interment in Lake John Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a pet shelter of your choice.
