Peggy Eileen Mattatall 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, April 22, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Peggy Eileen Mattatall, 78, Lockeport, died peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2003, in Roseway Hospital, Shelburne. Born in Lockeport, Peggy was a daughter of the late Hiram and Winnifred (Parks) Firth. Peggy worked for several years as a hair dresser, then later she and her husband ran the Esso oil business in Lockeport. All who knew Peggy will remember her best for her commitment to and love of her hometown of Lockeport. Peggy was an active volunteer having served as president of the Ragged Islands Historical Society and president of the Kiwanis Club. She spent endless hours doing research and compiling information to complete a Jones-Firth family history. Being an extremely talented artist, Peggy enjoyed painting, designing, and making a wide variety of crafts. Playing cards and board games with friends and family was always a favourite pastime. Peggy is survived by sons, Ken (Isabelle), Ottawa; Michael (Karen), Shelburne; sister, Joyce Buchanan; grandchildren, Michael, Craig, Kelly, Carrie; stepgrandchildren, Eden, Kirsten and Marc; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ken and brother, Glen. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place in Huskilson's Funeral Home, Lockeport, Wednesday at 11 a.m., Rev. John Hammond officiating. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit of Roseway Manor.
