Silas O. Woodworth 1948 Bridgewater Bulletin Hemford, February 23- This community was again saddened by the passing of Silas Woodworth on Saturday afternoon, February 14, at the age of 80 years and 5 months. Although in failing health for some time, he was only confined to his bed for two weeks. Born at Simpson's Corner, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Silas Woodworth and was the last surviving member of that family. Deceased was a highly respected citizen of Hemford, where he resided since his marriage to Ceretha Mailman, on January 29, 1889 and who predeceased him seven months ago. In his younger years he was active in all community affairs and was ever willing to offer his services toward all things pertaining to the welfare of his home and community. The deceased is survived by four sons and one daughter, (Cora) Mrs. Charles Markey, Marlboro, Massachusetts; Lowell of Bridgewater; Oren, Hemford; Carson, Marlboro; and Ivan, Simpson's Corner, with whom he resided since the passing of his wife and who tenderly cared for him in his last sickness. There are also 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Two sons and one daughter also predeceased him. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held on Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. S.G. MacQueen, of the United Church, of which the deceased was a member. After a brief service at the home of his son, Ivan, the service was continued at the church. Hymns sung were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "Hiding in Thee," "Jeus, Keep Me Near the Cross," "Work for the Night is Coming," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Members of Primrose Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body and conducted the committal service at the church and graveside. The pall bearers were Brother Odd Fellows, Allison Silver, Carl Hart, Howard Silver, and James McIntyre. Interment was made in the family plot at Hemford.
