Leon Warren Gerhardt 2001 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Friday, November 16, 2001. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Leon Warren Gerhardt, 70, First South, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born at Bayport, he was a son of the late Leo and Gladys (Mosher) Gerhardt. Leon owned and operated Gerhardt's Shell Service Station from 1954-1974 and then went to work for ABCO Industries, Lunenburg as a diesel mechanic and a Baader service technician. After his retirement, he continued to assist ABCO service representatives in the food and fishing industry and was still very involved in mechanical work. He was a member of First South United Church where he served as an elder, choir member, and was a former member of the Board of Trustees and Stewards. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Male Choir and served as vice-president of Bayport Cemetery Commission. Leon had a special love for life and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Cook; mother-in-law, Pauline Cook, First South; daughter, Krista (Stephen Locke), Halifax; son, Kent (Sharon) Tobias, Middle LaHave; sister, Lucy (Maxwell Cluett), Wilmington, Delaware; brother, Edgar (Sharon) Bayport; grandchildren, Alyssa and Brittany Gerhardt; Jeremy and Paulina Locke. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday in Central United Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum officiating, assisted by Rev. Vincent Ihasz and Rev. Vivian Moores. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First South United Church or to a charity of your choice.
