OBIT # 8274 - EVENING NEWS - 9 JULY 1963 Stellarton- John W. Carrigan, 190 North Foord St., died this morning in the Aberdeen Hospital. He would have been 78 on Aug. 28. He was a son of the late Mr. Dennis and Joanne(Sullivan) Carrigan of Westville. He had been a miner and retired in 1940, but worked for some time after that at the CNR roundhouse in Stellarton. A veteran of the First World War, he had been overseas for three years with the 85th Battalion and had been wounded at Vimy Ridge. Mr. Carrigan was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. He is survived by his wife, the former Mina Fitt; seven daughters, Beatrice (Mrs. John P. Doucette), Braintree, Mass; Johanna (Mrs. William Heighton), Florence (Mrs. John Copeland), Mrs. Willa Leigh, all of Stellarton; Virginia (Mrs. Webster Cunningham), Plymouth; Frances (Mrs.Harry Dooley), Westville; and Marguerite (Mrs. Max Barton), England; one son, George in Plymouth; five brothers, James and Edmund in Westville; George in Burlington, Ont., formerly of New Glasgow; Dan in Ajax, Ont.; and Albert in Boston; two sisters,Mary(Mrs. John Higgins) and Bridget (Mrs. Robert Wright), both of Westville. Two brothers, Peter and Dougall predeceased him, as did a son John in infancy. The remains are resting at the home and tentative plans are to hold the funeral Thursday morning from Lourdes Church.
