Genevieve Julia Durkee 2004 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Wednesday, April 28, 2004. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Genevieve Julia Durkee, 83, Veterans' Place, Yarmouth, died April 26, 2004, in Veterans' Place, Yarmouth. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late James Thibedeau and Genevieve Surette. She was a veteran of the Second World War, serving as sergeant in the air force at Fort MacLeod. She retired from the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. Surviving are daughter, Janet (Al Burns), Yarmouth; son, John (Nancy Begg), Ottawa; sister, Natalie Duquette, Halifax; loving grandchildren, Julie and Carrie Peterson, Mary Ellen and Colleen Durkee; stepgrandchildren, Jesse and Amanda Burns. She was predeceased by husband, Howard; three sisters and five brothers. Her remains are resting in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, with visitation from 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Robert Baker officiating. Interment in Chegoggin Cemetery. Family flowers only.
