Newman Perley Goodwin 2004 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, December 20, 2004. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Newman Perley Goodwin, 65, Shelburne, passed away suddenly December 16, 2004, in Shelburne. He was an industrial arts teacher for 39 years, spending 30 of those at Shelburne Regional High School. For 26 years, he taught driver education training at the school as well. Wild life and the outdoors were passions of Perley's. He was an active member of the Shelburne County Fish and Game Association and was also a member of the Shelburne Area Lions Club. Perley's talent with a piece of wood and a carving knife will be forever remembered in his beautiful works of art. Born October 21, 1939, he was the youngest son of the late Newman and Marion (Townsend) Goodwin (formerly of Shelburne). He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty (Harris); son, Mark (Barb), Amherst; daughter, Maureen, Winnipeg; sister, Marion (Ed) Toombs, Bridgewater; brother, Ernie (Evelyn), Northwest Harbour; grandsons, Alex and Ryan; granddaughters, Nicole and Alishia; two nieces; two nephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by sister, Helen and an infant sister. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, with funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday, both in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne, Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Shelburne. Reception to follow in Shelburne Lions Hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Shelburne County Fish and Game Association.
