Ernest Russell 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Saturday, February 1, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Ernest Russell, 80, Blue Rocks, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2003, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Saint John, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (MacLeod) Russell. In his earlier years he served in the Merchant Marines. Ernie was a stevedore for many years in Saint John. He was employed as a fisherman on fishing draggers for National Sea Products, Lunenburg and later worked at the Canexel Hardboard Plant in Chester. Before his retirement he worked in the boiler room at National Sea Products, Lunenburg. Ernie was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blue Rocks. He is survived by a daughter, Betty Ann and her husband Lawrence Corkum; sons, James Andrew and his wife Heather, both of Blue Rocks; Ernest Stephen and his wife Hilda, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Robert Corkum and his wife Sharon, Diane Heisler, both of Blue Rocks; Erica, David, and Marla Russell, all of Lunenburg; Colton Russell, Blue Rocks; Amanda Reeves, Bridgewater; great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Blaine, Blue Rocks; sisters, Winnifred "Winnie" Roberts, Woodstock, New Brunwick; Joan Chappel, Saint John; Flora (Don) Bickford, Rita (George) Keith, both of New Brunswick; brothers, Earl Russell, Toronto; Stephen Russell, Saint John; David, Wayne, and Brian Russell; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Dorothy Tanner; brothers, William and Edward Russell; Ernie Louis. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, with visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blue Rocks, Rev. David Dellapinna officiating. Interment will be in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery, Blue Rocks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Anglican Church, IWK Health Centre Foundation, Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery or a charity of choice.
