David Franklin McGill 2004 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, November 30, 2004. >From the collection of Gwen Christie David Franklin McGill, 55, Newcombville, died November 27, 2004, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Middleton, he was the eldest son of Frank and Anita (Walker) McGill, Newcombville. David was a letter carrier for Canada Post for over 30 years and thoroughly enjoyed his job. He also refereed hockey for 25 years besides playing and being involved with other sports. David loved the outdoors and always got fishing fever in the spring. He was content to just "tinker" around his goldfish pond, gardens, and property, and always described himself as a simple man with simple pleasures. He was a "people person" and always had time for a word with everyone he ran into. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Lynn Russell; daughter, Stephanie (Peter Lee), Courtenay, British Columbia; son, Steven (Yumi), Newcombville; precious grandchildren, Justin and Megan (Lee) and Mina (McGill); brother, Richard (Liz), Mahone Bay; nephew, Michael; niece, Samantha; several aunts, uncles, cousins; mother-in-law, sisters and brothers-in-law, all of whom he considered his family. David was also blessed with many good friends and caring neighbours. He will be missed. He was predeceased by a sister in infancy. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and a service for the celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, both in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Rev. Pat Gow officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
