Meretha Blanche Barkhouse 2005 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Meretha Blanche Barkhouse ( Wilson) , 105, Shoreham Village Home for Special Care, Chester, and formerly of Tancook Island, died April 22, 2005, in the home. Born on Big Tancook Island, she was a daughter of the late Leander and Jessie (Stevens) Cross. She was a member of Tancook United Baptist Church, also the choir and Women's Missionary Society. Meretha is survived by her daughter, Verna (Arthur) Stevens, Tancook Island; sister, Helen (Charles) Cross, Dartmouth; grandsons, Gary (Christine) Stevens, Blandford; Terry (Barbara) Hiltz, Dartmouth; step-grandson, Kenneth Morash, Halifax; granddaughters, Sharon (Keith) Daniels, Herman's Island; Sandra (Robert) Whynot, Marriott's Cove; step-granddaughter, Diane (Dale) Ward, Halifax; five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilfred Laurier Wilson; her second husband, Kenneth Barkhouse; daughter, Betty Hiltz; brother, Percy. Visitation will be held 2:30-5 p.m. Monday, with funeral service 9 a.m. Tuesday, both in Davis Funeral Home, Chester, Pastor Renee Clark officiating. Interment in Tancook Baptist Cemetery, followed by refreshments in the Rec. Centre. Memorial donations may be made to Tancook United Baptist Church. Ferry service will be leaving Chester, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and returning at 1:30 p.m.
