Clarence Gordon Lyle 2001 Halifa Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, January 8, 2001. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Clarence Gordon Lyle, 91, Shelburne, died Saturday January 6, 2001, in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point. Born in Wood's Harbour, he was a son of the late George and Margaret (Nickerson) Lyle. He moved from Wood's Harbour at the age of nine years. He lived on Cape Negro Island and finally lived the rest of his life in Shelburne. He was a dory builder in his teen years for Charlie Wyman, a lobster fisherman. He served in the Second World War in Europe and in later years retired as the government wharfinger in Shelburne. Surviving are his wfie, Ida Louise (Woodfine), Shelburne; sons, Gordon, Shelburne; Charles and his wife Barb, Shelburne; Robert and wife Barb, Kingston; daughters, Carol (Mrs. Gordon Foote), Moncton; Shirley (Mrs. Dale Thomas), Thomasville; stepdaughters, Ida (Mrs. Arnold Shand), Bear Point; and Dorothy (Mrs. Clifford McNulty), Ottawa; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian(Faye); sisters, Georgie and Sadie. Visitation will be today 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Legion service 7 p.m. Tuesday, funeral service 2 p.m Wednesday, all in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne, Pastor Irwin Willis and Captain Henry Bingle and his wife Beatrice officiating. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Shelburne. Family flowers only.
