OBIT # 8246 - EVENING NEWS - 9 APRIL 1963 Stellarton- Fred Lewis Blair, general manager of Industrial Estates Limited in its early years, died unexpectedly at his home on Young Ave., Halifax, Monday afternoon. Mr. Blair had been in Merigomish attending a funeral Sunday. Monday morning he suffered a heart attack and died within a few hours. He was born 61 years ago in Stellarton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Blair. He held responsible posts with Canada Packers in Ontario for many years before rerturning to his native province to run Industrial Estates when the Crown corporation was formed. After seeing IEL thriving, he went back into private business. and was associated with several firms, chief of which was Louisport Wholesale in Newfoundland. He maintained his head office in Halifax and commuted between the two provinces. Mr. Blair was a member of the Presbyterian Church, of the Masonic Order and of the Rotary Club. He went overseas with the 85th Battalion at the age of 14 in the First World War. Mr. Blair is survived by his wife, the former Olive Fraser of Stellarton; two daughters, Olive, his private secretary, Halifax; and Peggy (Mrs. Keiller Bently), Baddeck; two sons, Norval in Newfoundland and Dale at home; two sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Frank MacDonald, Merigomish; and Essie (Mrs. W. K. Murray), Meadowville; three brothers, Douglas in Vancouver; Havelock in Stellarton and Gordon in New York. A brother Norval was killed overseas in the First World War. The remains are resting at MacAskill's Funeral Home, 184 Quinpool Road, Halifax, from where the funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., with interment in Halifax.
