OBIT # 9472 - THE NEW GLASGOW EVENING NEWS - MAY 1949 The death occurred of Mrs. Sarah Jane (Rogers) MacKay at 2 a.m. April 29th 1949 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merritt MacKay, 528 MacDonald St., New Glasgow, N.S. She was born in Eden Lake, Pictou County, March 24th 1872. She was the eldest daughter of Alexander henry of Alma, Pictou County and Ellen (Wood) Henry of Eden Lake. Her mother came over from Arbroath, Scotland when 1 year old with her parents who settled at Eden Lake. Her childhood days were spent in Thorburn, where her parents made home. Her father, Alexander Henry drove for Mr. Greinor, the manager of the Mines in Thorburn at the time. Her father died when she was 12 years old. Her brother, the late George Henry was well known in Thorburn. When a young girl in her early teens, she went to Wakefield, Mass to reside, her family joining her as the years went by. First her sister Isabel Greinor Henry, next her sister Jessie, and her mother and brother George. She married Al Rogers in Wakefield, Mass where they made their home for the first few years, later coming to New Glasgow to live. *Note: Remainder of this obit missing.
