John Holden Stevens 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte John Holden Stevens, 84, East Chester, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, January 15, 2009. Holden was born in East Chester, the eldest son of John Clifford and Dorothy Mae (Armstrong) Stevens. He retired from Canexel Hardboard Plant, East River in 1988, after 17 years of service. He spent many of his retirement years being very active while enjoying camping, his four-wheeler, splitting wood, and helping his friend, Dave, in his sawmill. He was always happy to meet his grandchildren at the school bus stop. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Holden is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie "Mardie" (McInnis); son, Robert (Della); daughters, Debbie Publicover and Lisa (Willie) Rhyno, Chester; brothers, Ira (Mabel), James (Edith); foster brother, Peter (Susan) Bond and foster sister, Hilda( William) Bremner, all of East Chester; grandchildren, Otto Stevens, Emily Publicover, Savannah and Dawson Rhyno; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceaased by his son, Philip and his brother, Basil. No visitation by family request. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester with Father Jim McCorriston officiating. Burial will follow in Bayview Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Chester Volunteer Fire Department, St. Stephen's Anglican Church or Shoreham Village Palliative Care Unit. Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, Chester.
