Prenetta Hilda Manuel 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Saturday, June 7, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Prenetta Hilda Manuel, 88, Halifax, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 5, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Buckfield, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (Wile) Whynot. She took a very active role in many charitable organizations and her church. As a life long learner, whether reading or travelling, she enjoyed sharing her interest in current events with her many friends. She graduated as a registered nurse from the former Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax and found great comfort in caring for others. She was an active member of the Ashburn Golf Club, St. John's United Church, spent her winters in Florida, was an accomplished amateur artist. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Cruikshank and son-in-law, Bruce Cruikshank and their sons, Christopher, Halifax; Brian, Golden, British Columbia; Lindsay Melnick Manuel, Fredericton; Leslie Melnick Manuel, Moncton; daughters of David and Donna Manuel Donna Manuel New Glasgow. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, George; son, David; sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Percy Seamone)(Bridgewater); Marion (Mrs. John Knowlton) (Kingston, Ontario); brothers, Wilbert, Harris, Forrest, Bruce (Lunenburg). The family is deeply appreciative to the staff, especially the nurses and LPN's for the compassionate care given to her during her stays at 8.1 Halifax Infirmary, TransitionalCare Unit, VG Hospital and Parkland Estates. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visiotrs 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, both in Cruikshank's Funeral Home, Robie Street, Halifax. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John's United Church or The Transitional Care Unit, VG Hospital.
