OBIT # 19152 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 8 February 1921 GUNN, George - There passed away on the 25 th of January. ultimo, Mr. George Gunn, one of the oldest and most respected residents of the community of St. Mary's, in the 78th year of his age. Of hardy pioneer stock, Mr. Gunn was the son of the late Alexander Gunn, who with his wife, Elizabeth Campbell, accompanied by their family, emigrated to Nova Scotia from Kildonan, Scotland at the time of the infamous "Highland Clearances." Arriving at a time when the whole country between New Glasgow and St. Mary's was practically an unbroken wild, and with nothing but a bridle path to guide them, they reached St. Mary's, wither a few resolute, kindred spirits had preceded them, and with that industry, courage and hardihood so characteristic of their race wrested for themselves a new home and a new heritage from the virgin forest. The late George Gunn was the youngest of a family of five brothers and one sister, all of whom predeceased him. They were Peter and Mary (Mrs. Angus Cameron), of St. Mary's; Donald, of New Brunswick; Rev. William, of Des Moines, Iowa; Alexander, of Sydney; and Rev. Adam of Estavan, Alberta. A loyal and devoted Presbyterian, the late George Gunn, although a quiet, unobtrusive man, was a pillar in his church. His mind was well stored with the doctrines and tenets of his faith, and he was ready and able at all times to defend them to the uttermost. His funeral, on Saturday, the 29th ultimo, was largely attended. He leaves a widow, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Moore, of Lowell, Mass., and Mrs James R. Christie of Okanagan, B.C., and one son, William A. R., at home.
