Captain Samuel Elim Corkum 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, June 5, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Captain Samuel Elim Corkum, 72, Feltzen South, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at home. Born in Feltzen South, he was a son of the late Elim and Vera (Bolivar) Corkum. Sam spent 43 years fishing, starting his career on schooners as a young man, and in later years he was the skipper of the Marion Crouse and then the Elizabeth Ann until his retirement. He took great pleasure in quilting and rug hooking during his spare time. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg and the Unity Lodge 4 of the Masonic Order. He was also a member of Wesley United Church, Feltzen South. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Gwendolyn Corkum; daughter, Jocelyn and her companion Brian Robar, Saint John; son, Michael and his wife Connie, Fletcher's Lake; sisters, Eva (Mrs. Fred Dares), Beatrice (Mrs. Gordon Tanner), and Elizabeth Hubley and her companion Harvey Rafuse, all of Bayport; sister-in-law, Virginia Corkum, East LaHave; grandchildren, Daniel and his companion Laura, Graham, and Elisa. He was predeceased by a brother, Allison. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Rev. Vivian Moores officiating. Interment will be in Feltzen South Cemetery, Feltzen South. There will be no visitation at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wesley United Church, Feltzen South Cemetery or a charity of choice.
