    3. Brig. Gen. George Power Morrison, (Ret'd) 1995 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: December 21, 1995. Brig. Gen. George Power Morrison, (Ret'd), RRCA, CBE, CD - 100, Chester, died December 16, 1995, at home. Born in Quebec, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Power) Morrison. He celebrated his 100th. birthday in Chester on June 12, 1995, with congratulations received from Queen Elizabeth II, Governor General Romeo LeBlanc, and Prime Minister Jean Chretien among many others. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living graduate of Royal Military College, Kingston. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Regiment Canadian Artillery in 1915 and served with the Canadian Siberian Expeditionary Force in 1919. He was promoted to captain in 1920 and served as gunnery instructor in Halifax in 1924. In the 1930's, he served as a staff officer in various positions and was employed with NRC and NDHQ in Ottawa as well as RMC in Kingston. He was promoted to brigadier in 1942 and retired in 1951. He had a distinguished military career spanning the First World War and the Second World War and received the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1944 and the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1950. He was widely recognized as one of North America's top ballistic experts. Surviving are half-sister, Mts. Joan Wasson, Australia; nephews, David and Ray Binmore; step-daughter, Harriette Stairs, Ottawa; step-grandchildren, John Stairs, Oakville; George Stairs, Ottawa, Peter Stairs, Burlington; eight step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Buckley; stepson, John A. Stairs.; sisters, Gay Adams, Aileen Oliver. No funeral by request. Cremation has taken place. Burial was held December 20 in Fairview Cemetery, Halifax, Rev. Kerry Bourke officiated. Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Salvation Army.
