Passed peacefully in Kingston General Hospital on Friday, November 23, 2007, from pancreatic cancer at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Lila, he is survived by her and his four children, Maureen Wellman and husband Donald, Carolyn Roach and husband Edward, Eric, and Bill Jr.; his siblings, Gordon and wife Geraldine, Kingston, Ontario; John "Jack" and wife Alicia, Bridgewater; Glenwood and wife Elizabeth, Bridgewater; Eugene, Caledonia; and Dorothy Ann and husband, Rev. David Lutes, Truro. He was the eldest son of the late Donald Penney and Esther (Minard) of Caledonia and was also predeceased by his younger brother, "Bobby," husband of Dianne. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Roach, Crystal Wellman, Kieran and Camille Penney, and several nieces and nephews. Bill was a retired Senior Vice-president of the Bank of Nova Scotia and had worked in Caledonia, Kentville, Sydney Mines, Liverpool, Amherst, and across Canada. After his retirement, he lived in Melrose and Kingston. He was an avid golfer and hunter. His ashes will be interred in Nova Scotia at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
