Obediah Kaulback 1950 Bridgewater Bulletin On Good Friday there passed away peacefully at his home, Obediah Kaulback, Maplewood's oldest resident, at the age of 94 years. He was a farmer and stone mason by trade. He was a faithful member of the United Baptist church for about 70 years. He was never absent from services until age and feebleness prevented. He was respected by all who knew him and an example of upright Christian living. He filled the office of deacon for upwards of 60 years and superintendent of the Sunday School for about ten years. He was one of a family of 14 children of the late Edward and Sarah (Varner) Kaulback, who were among the pioneers of the community. His wife, who predeceased him 11 years ago, was Julia Banks, daughter of the late Thomas and Maria (Ernst) Banks. Surviving are his four children: Cora, Mrs. Frank Looke, residing on the homestead; Edna, Mrs. G.H. Temple, Amesbury, Massachusetts; James O. Kaulback, of Halifax; and Charles E. Kaulback, of Bromley, England; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Weldon, Lawrence, Massachusetts; Mrs. Victoria Jacques, Seattle; and Mrs. Judson Wentzell, Turner, Maine; two brothers, Wellington of Weld, Maine and Samuel, of Springfield, Nova Scotia. The funeral was held on Easter Monday afternon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. P.M. Hamilton. Hymns sung were "Higher Ground," "No Night There," and "Sweet Bye and Bye." The pall bearers were Elmer and Ormand Kaulback, George and Margeson Wentzell.
