Charles Thompson Smith 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Thursday, September 17, 2009. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Charles Thompson "Tom" Smith passed away September 15, 2009, in Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage. Born in Chester, Tom was the son of Ivan and Dorothy Smith. He graduated from Kings College School, the Nova Scotia Normal College and Acadia University. He worked as a bellhop at the Hackmatack Inn in Chester and the Paramount Hotel in Wolfville and as desk clerk at Lakeside Inn in Yarmouth and the Banff Springs Hotel. He was employed as a teacher in West Quoddy; Magog, Quebec; Whitehorse, Yukon; Ruatahuna and Greymouth, New Zealand; Geelong, Ausralia; Stranraer, Scotland; Windsor, England; and for 23 years as senior history teacher in New Germany. In 1996 he retired and moved to Halifax where he delighted in his Spring Garden Road residence. His leisurely days were spent caring for his cats and taking daily strolls to the Public Gardens. He was an active member of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Halifax. Tom will be remembered fondly by his church community and friends for his kindness, generosity, and easy laughter. A memorial service will be held at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Halifax, September 26, at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Universalist Unitarian Church of Halifax or charity of choice. Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax.
