Nellie Flotilla Simpson 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Wednesday, February 26, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Nellie Flotilla Simpson, 87, Clarence, died February 24, 2003, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Newellton, Cape Sable Island, she was a daughter of the late Orlando and Josephine (Newell) Newell. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Victory, Doctor's Cove, Shelburne County, Clementsvale, Bear River, Bear River East, and Annapolis Royal for 20 years. She was a life member of the Women's Missionary Society. Surviving are daughters, Maureen Paterson, Hamilton; Mary Banks, Clarence; sisters, Addie (William) Newell, Newellton; Mary Newell, Newellton; brother, Gordon, Upper Clyde; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Maurice; brothers, Weldon, Kenneth, George, Wallace and two brothers in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Clementsvale United Baptist Church, Rev. Warren Fitzgerald and Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. Interment in Clementsvale Cemetery. A reception by the Friendly Club will be held following the service. Donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or a charity of your choice.
