Gerald James Conrad 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Gerald James Conrad, 80, Hammond's Plains, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Riverport, he was a son of the late Titus and Enid (Joudrey) Conrad. Gerald spent his early years at sea working on oil tankers on the Great Lakes, before working 36 years with the Department of Highways, retiring in 1990. He was always busy and loved working in the garden and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria (Reinhardt); sons, Terry (Sherry), Lower Sackville; Peter (Debbie), Hammond's Plains; Kyle (Kristal), Tantallon; daughters, Barbara Burke, Halifax; Tina (Gerry) Westlake, Beaver Bank; sister, Barbara Schmidt, Kentville; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son in infancy; brothers, Harold, Bruce, Arnold; and sisters, Pauline Strong and Winnie Conrad. A special thank you to the Nursing Staff of 5A the VG Site, QEII. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, Lower Sackville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 16, in Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Windsor Street, Halifax, with a reception to follow. Private family interment to take place in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection or charity of choice.
