    3. OBIT # 9463 - UNKNOWN PAPER - 5 MAY 1947 Upper Musquodoboit - May 5 - Samuel Archibald, 94, grand old man of the Musquodoboit Valley, died here at 10am after an illness of less than two weeks. He suffered a heavy fall about ten days ago and although he did not break any bones, he had steadily declined since. Mr Archibald, son of the late Squire David Archibald and his wife Margaret Archibald was one of the sturdiest citizens who ever lived in this valley. Two years ago at the age of 92, he engaged in logging operations and actually cut down large trees with an axe. His health had been uniformly good until a few weeks before his death. The Archibalds were Pioneer settlers in the Musquodoboit Valley and the farm on which he lived was once occupied by William Annand and also for a period by the great Joseph Howe, who retired there for about two years to engage in literary and other efforts. Mr. Archibald's wife, the former Ida Dunlap of Upper Stewiake, predeceased him. Surviving are four daughters:Alice (Mrs Jack Creighton), Westville, Nettie (Mrs Lester Ross) Estevan, Saskatchewan, Jessie (Mrs Ivan Ross) Estevan, Blanche (Mrs Lynds MacRae), British Columbia. Two surviving sons, Harold, Upper Musquodoboit, and David, Los Angeles. A third son William predeceased him. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from St. James United Church with a private service at the house at 2:15.
