OBIT # 9462 - UNKNOWN PAPER - 24 February 1947 Upper Musquodoboit, February 24 - The death occurred suddenly on Wednesday evening at 9:30 of John Grant Deckman aged 85, from a heart attack. Although in frail health for the past year , Mr Deckman was about his chores as usual last evening, but suffered a heart attack soon after retiring and died in a few minutes, before medical aid reached him.His wife, Jane Holman, predeceased him 24 years ago, and he is survived by 3 daughters, Lottie (Mrs Robert Barker), Keene, New Hampshire, May (Mrs Frank Reid) Keene, New Hampshire, and Ethel at home, and by one sister, Lenora(Mrs Henry Stewart), who also lived at home with him. Four brothers, one a medical doctor predeceased him. He was the son of John Grant Deckman and Margaret Ann Logan. Down through the years the Deckman home has been well known as one of kindly hospitality and the deceased was a highly respected prosperous farmer.He was a life-long member of the local church and served as Trustee of St. James United Church up to the time of his death and for many years was a member of the board of managers.His death came on his 57th wedding anniversary.Funeral services will be held from the home at 1:30 and St. James Church at 2 o'clock on Sunday.
